The City of Keego Harbor, Michigan is seeking applicants for the position of police chief to provide leadership and oversight of its police department. Under the direct supervision of the City Manager, the police chief oversees all operations of the Police Department. The chief is responsible for the supervision of all patrol officers and other departmental staff to ensure that the laws and ordinances are enforced.
The City of Keego Harbor has a population of 3,000 residents and is located in suburban Oakland County. Keego Harbor is a lake community, including Cass Lake, the largest lake in Oakland County. The area is renowned for its water recreation resources.
The ideal candidate will possess both strong law enforcement and administrative skills. The chief must be able to work collaboratively with the City Council, the City's leadership team, community stakeholders, Oakland County's Courts and Law Enforcement Management Information System (CLEMIS) and members of the Department. The chief must establish and maintain a close working relationship with surrounding law enforcement agencies.
The candidate should have experience with employee development, training, effective fiscal and budget oversight, strong organization and administrative oversight, community policing and community outreach. The candidate will be expected to wear a uniform at all time, respond to major crime scenes on a 24-hour-per-day basis; respond to calls after hours as needed. The candidate must maintain physical conditioning to be able to perform duties of a police officer, as the chief when needed. The chief is also expected to patrol the city as needed. To provide exposure of the chief to city residents and business owners.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a closely related field.
•Minimum of ten years of total law enforcement experience of which five years must be police management/supervisory/command experience. A recognized staff and command school such as, EMU or MSU.
•Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. •
• Preference given to those who have attended an advanced leadership training program, such as, the F.B.I. National Academy, or Northwestern School of Police Command.
•MCOLES licensed.
•Must maintain a valid Michigan driver's license and safe driving record.
•Must complete and submit a City of Keego Harbor background questionnaire and pass an extensive background investigation.
