Job Description

The job class is for full-time Out-of-State Officers, Federal Officers, Military Police Officers, and previously certified Florida Law Enforcement Officers or Corrections Officers with a break-in-service of four years or more but no more than eight.  The (EOT) program allows an officer to be exempt from having to complete the full basic recruit academy for either position. 
 

Starting salary while attending the 8 day equivalency of training (EOT) course is currently $17.21 hourly.  Upon completing the training course and passing your State Officer Certified Exam (SOCE), your salary will immediately increase to $50,648.00 at the start of Orientation. 

 

***Starting January 6, 2024 the starting pay will increase to an annual salary of $50,648 - $73,756***

Those who meet these requirements are encouraged to apply for a paid sponsorship to attend an (8) day Equivalency of Training Program (EOT) course at Eastern Florida State College, or any other Criminal Justice Standard Training Center (CJSTC) in the state of Florida who offers the (EOT) program. We are strongly looking for out-of-state candidates who are ambitious to re-locate to the state of Florida.  

*Applicants who are currently attending or near completion of the (EOT) program, and successfully passed all portions of the Brevard County Sheriff's Office background process and approved for hire may be eligible for (EOT) tuition reimbursement.  

RECRUITMENT BONUS – UP TO $5,000!** 
 
The State of Florida is offering a recruitment bonus of up to $5,000 for newly certified officers and for out of state law enforcement officers who move to the Sunshine State!  
 
Certified law enforcement officers who are currently employed by a law enforcement agency within the state of Florida, who will not qualify for the State of Florida recruitment bonus, may be eligible for a one-time recruitment bonus from the Sheriff’s Office of up to $5,000.  
 
 
Additionally, applicants with prior certified full-time Law Enforcement or Corrections Officer experience may start above the minimum starting pay up to $53,768.00 annually based on the applicant's years of service.
 
            
 
**Applicants are not eligible to receive more than one recruitment bonus. State of Florida paid bonuses are contingent upon legislative appropriation.
 

 

Position Duties

This is a trainee-level class, and incumbents are expected to successfully complete the (8) day Equivalency of Training (EOT) course, pass the State Officer Certification Exam (S.O.C.E.) and promote to Deputy Sheriff or Corrections Deputy.  

Termination Includes:
•Recruit withdraws from the Equivalency of Training (EOT) course or is terminated by academy authorities
•Recruit fails to complete the (EOT) program
•Recruit fails to pass State Officer Certification Exam 
•Recruit voluntarily resigns
•Recruit abandons his/her position before working as a certified Law Enforcement or Corrections officer for the BCSO, or fails to fulfill their three year contract after becoming certified and re-classified as a Deputy Sheriff or Corrections Officer. 

When trainees are not actively engaged in (EOT) courses, they will perform various office-related duties, training exercises and observation events during or after business hours. 

Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is a requirement of this job. 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • To be eligible for this position, the applicant must obtain CJSTC Form 76 Equivalency of Training (EOT) Exemption Approval:
    Contact a Criminal Justice Selection Center in the state of Florida to determine eligibility to be exempt from completing a basic recruit training course. If approved, you will be issued an Equivalency of Training CJSTC Form 76.   • The applicant MUST be eligible or registered to start the (EOT) program ASAP and will have received an acceptance letter with a start date.
  • The applicant MUST attach a copy of their (EOT) acceptance letter to their on-line application for the position at brevardsheriff.com.
  • Candidates must have established Florida residency at time of hire
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have a valid Class E Florida Driver's License upon completion of the (EOT) program
  • Must have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must meet the BCSO Drug Policy standards
  • Must have not been convicted of a felony
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces 
  • Must be within BCSO Body Ornamentation/Tattoo Policy
